bag-of-dirt:

A Soviet soldier watches for enemy positions during the Siege of Breslau. Also known as the Battle of Breslau, the siege lasted for three months and saw some of the bloodiest fighting during the war. Even as the Soviets overtook Berlin, the Germans refused to surrender the city and heavy skirmishes continued. The city would finally be captured on 6 May 1945, just two days before Germany conceded defeat and the war ended. Breslau, Lower Silesia, Germay (now, Wrocław, Lower Silesian Voivodeship, Poland).  March 1945. Image taken by Dmitri Baltermants.
